Love in Indonesia.
These are just the things what Liz wanted to do on a journey of her life to find one's own happiness and contentment. She made those lavish but satisfying rewards to self that no one can ever take away from her. This book is based from the author's ( Elizabeth Gilbert ) own experience on her travels and acquaintances with different people.
A book full of thought and encouragement about life, people and emotions. I love how Gilbert have written the story. She makes the readers contemplate and adapt on her substantial insights on her actual encounters.
Eating what you want to eat isn't that bad at all even if you gain extra calories. For others, it is a way to release tension, an escape route to stress or just a desire to do so. You'll never get punished if you eat your favorite foods anyway. And why did Gilbert chose Italy? Because it is where the best spaghetti is found; and because, it is the place where people find food as an art; eating as a passion. And most of all, Italians are the masters of il bel far niente or "the beauty of doing nothing."
What makes a prayer different from medidation? It is said that prayer is the act of talking to God, while meditation is the act of listening. In India, praying and meditation is part of their Yoga practices. Yoga is in Sanskrit and can be translated as "union". It just means that we have to have union not only with our mind, body and soul but also with God. You may not be able to do Yoga all the time, but it conveys one thing, to be able to strengthen our devotion and faith to God by believing in ourselves and others.
As to Gilbert's last destination was in Bali, Indonesia, where she seeks to find balance in her life. Balance is simple. You find balance when you find happiness. But then happiness is not a stroke of luck, it is the consequence of personal effort. And when you find it you have to maintain it to stay afloat on top of it. You have to learn to love. But you must stop looking through your head. Look through your heart, instead.
